Petit Verdot - Clone 400 ENTAINRA
Description: This is the new French Petite Verdot ( clone 400 ) of the 2000s; which is characterized as Vigor=Moderate, Bud-break=Moderate, Harvest=Late. In the Napa Valley this produces a wine with supple aromas. Rate this clone with respect to your region.
Webmaster quotes the winemaking "crew" at Chappellet: 'The Clone 400 Petit Verdot is proving to make wines which are robust on hillsides on the eastside of Napa Valley

This is the new clone for Napa Valley. It is superior to Clone 2; that it produces a wine with supple aromas, especially in Napa Valley's most difficult areas. By example north of St. Helena it produces a rich aroma tones. It is not the perfect grape for Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignons but it is a workhorse nonetheless. I still prefer Malbec and Lagrein in Sonoma.
