Barrel Cleaning: Soda Ash-Citric Acid Method
Description: There are several barrel cleaning procedures. Do you use the Soda-ash/citric acid Method listed below? A new barrel can be rapidly conditioned in the following manner:
  1. Prepare 0.1% Soda Ash Solution: 0.1% Soda Ash (3.76 Grams Per Gallon).
  2. Wash the barrel with 5-Gallons of the Soda Ash Solution.
  3. Drain.
  4. Prepare 0.2% Citric Solution: 0.2% Citric Acid (7 Grams Per Gallon).
  5. Wash the barrel with 3-Gallons of the Citric Acid Solution.
  6. Drain Citric Acid Solution.
  7. Fill the barrel with wine.
