Marsanny French Oak Barrels
Description: These are one of the four coopers we use for our Central Coast Pinot Noir. My sense is that these are more woody, i.e. boardy, or planky than the Fr. Freres, Radous or even Sirgue barrels. Do you like these barrels for Central Coast reds?

These barrels are being used for red wines by several Rhone producers in the Central Coast.

With respect to Marrsannay for Central Coast - wines - I work with 10 producers as consulting winemaker. And I am very sure that these barrels are one of about five of the top twenty producers mentioned in these forums that fit the Central Coast terroir. Here is my sense, Central Coast red Rhone and Burgundy varietals terroir is difficult to match with the same barrels as work in Napa Valley for winemakers such as Joseph Phelps Vin de Mistral Rhones or Cabernet Sauvignons. Marssany is superior to Seguin Moreau, Radoux, and others which add a woody, plank or cedar attribute to Central Coast wines which accents our herbal tones in the aroma. That is my sense.

I like these barrels for cool climate, herbal Bordeaux variety wines, and have used with Cabernet and Merlot.
